light.APP is a free, easy to use flashlight that uses the LED light (camera flash) of your iPhone 4 to make a brighter light. But wait, theres more! Its also a battery conditioner, and a shadow puppet projector! Keep reading for more information…

OK, seriously. Its mostly a flashlight app for your iPhone 4. Tap the icon, and youve got light. It couldnt be easier or faster. The sections below are about settings, unintended features, frustrations with other flashlight apps, and general information.

Through your iPhones Settings app, you can:
☀ Enable or disable your iPhones built-in sleep function so that you dont have to touch the screen every minute to prevent the light from turning off.
☀ Hide or display your iPhones current battery charge level so that you always know how much juice youve got left.

Those other claims in the introduction are true also...
☀ It is a good idea to condition your battery, which means that you should fully drain and recharge it about once per month. With light.APP, you can turn the light on and walk away, and your phone will shut off when the battery is fully drained. Plug your phone in until it is fully charged, and you have completed one conditioning cycle.
☀ If you have kids, they love shadow puppets! The bright, white light of the iPhones LED makes them very vivid!

Its true that there are many flashlight apps out there. So why did I do this? When LED flashlight apps were first allowed in the app store, I tried most of them. I was very frustrated with all of them:
☀ With some, I would open the app, the flashlight would come on, and a very bright screen would be pointed back at my face! Why would a "flashlight" app make it more difficult to see at night by shining bright light back in my face?!
☀ With others, I opened the app, and no light came on! I would have to push, pull, slide, double tap… you name it, to turn on the light. The purpose of the app is to provide light! Why should I have to tell an app that ONLY provides light that it should now start providing light after I launch the app?!
☀ Not even one could be set to disable the iPhones sleep/auto-lock, so I had to tap the screen every minute to prevent the light from turning off.
☀ The single free app that only suffered from two of the above three frustrations - if I wanted to turn off ads, I had to delete it, search for and find the paid version in the App Store and purchase it separately.
☀ I wanted a flashlight, not a freaking strobe! If Im trying to have a party, I will rent a strobe light! The puny little thing on my iPhone isnt going to be useful for that, so stop trying to convince me that Im going to have wild and crazy parties with hot babes because I have a strobe light on my phone!
☀ You shouldnt have to pay for an app that takes so little effort to make, and 90% of the flashlight apps cost $1 or more with no way to try it out first.

I was very frustrated by the fact that there were 30 apps, but they all sucked! I became curious about how long it would take for me to make something better. The answer: 11 hours, 10 minutes.

light.APP is free with advertising. The ads never get in the way of the function of the app, but if you want to remove them, tap the dollar sign. A one-time fee of $0.99 (USD) will be charged through your iTunes account, and you will never have to see another ad in light.APP again.
